Customer and ICP research
Develop customer and ICP hypotheses without claiming verified demand or outreach consent.
On this page
Develop evidence-backed customer and ideal-customer-profile hypotheses. The intended result describes whom an offering might serve; it does not prove demand or identify people who consented to contact.
Supply the business context
Start with the product/service catalog, company offering, territory scope, observed research and the decision you need to make. Explain whether you are exploring an audience, refining an existing ICP or comparing segments.
Do not treat protected traits or precise private location traces as interchangeable with ordinary business audience context.
Preserve the hypothesis
Retain the supporting sources, reasoning, model/version, assumptions, confidence and unknowns. A suggested need, channel or buying motive must remain labeled as a hypothesis unless directly observed.
For example, a proposed ICP of regional retail operations teams does not establish that specific individuals want the product.
Promote with care
A reviewed ICP may inform opportunity comparison, Store preparation or campaign planning. It is not permission to enrich personal contacts, send messages or dispatch work. Those outcomes need separate scope and consent.
